Colour Heals: Chakra Magic Yoga – Part 1: The Root, Sacral and Solar Plexus Chakras
Chakras are the seven energy centres located along the spine from its base to the top of the head.
The concept of Chakras is ancient. Their origins go back to the beginnings of Hinduism and Buddhism. Chakra means a “spinning wheel” in Sanskrit, and if any of the seven wheels gets blocked in us, we may feel unbalanced and sometimes even fall ill.
In this blog we will summarize the healing attributes and colours of the first three Chakras: Root, Sacral and Solar Plexus, corresponding respectively with the colour ranges of red, orange and yellow.
We will also showcase our fabARTonstuff Chakra Magic Collection to help put you in the healing zone - beautiful garments and accessories with a modern take of each of the Chakras. This collection was designed for wear on and off the mat. The art is a collaboration between Lidka Schuch, creative director fabARTonstuff and Mona Idriss, Toronto graphic designer and illustrator.
Take a look at our low to mid, crossover and high-rise leggings and capris, shorts, t-shirts and crop t-shirts, tank tops and crop tank tops, rashguard tops and and sweatshirts. 1. Root Chakra - RED
The Root Chakra is located at the base of spine and the colour associated with it is red.
Red is the colour of strength, confidence, self-awareness, harmonious vitality, courage, safety and stability, and those are the attributes of the Root Chakra as well. Wearing red or looking at it can increase circulation, raise blood pressure, pulse rate and your energy level.
A blocked Root Chakra could manifest as digestive problems, hypertension and irregularities in the function of kidneys, hips and legs.
Specific Yoga poses can help unblock and balance this Chakra.
We asked Laurie Benson of Laurie Benson Chandra Yoga, an experienced Yoga teacher, to show us how to preserve or balance your Root Chakra.
2. Sacral Chakra - Orange
The Sacral Chakra is located two to three inches below the navel, where the reproductive organs are found and it is associated with those organs and also with the lymphatic system.
Its colour is orange to yellowish red. It is said that visualizing this colour may lessen depression and heighten feelings of joy.
The main Sacral Chakra’s attributes are creativity, joy, freedom, relationships and a healthy balance between body and mind.
When this Chakra is blocked or unbalanced, we could experience low self-esteem, anxiety and lack of self-control.
Laurie can help you restore your Sacral Chakra with her free online classes and fabARTonstuff can help set the mood with beautiful and comfortable garments in the colours of the Chakra you wish to improve.
3. Solar Plexus Chakra - Yellow
The Solar Plexus Chakra is located just above the navel, where the diaphragm exists. Its attributes, among others, are clarity of judgement, inner strength, positivity and self-confidence.
Yellow ranging from light to deep, golden yellow, is the colour of this Chakra. This colour can increase mental ability, metabolic rate and energy levels and heighten awareness.
When the Solar Plexus Chakra is unbalanced, it could mean we have repressed emotions and we could also experience the feeling that we are not in control of our lives.
The free yoga session with Laurie could help you regain your inner power and the happy and bright yellow colour of our garments just may give you the energy to practice a little Yoga every day :)
