THE CROWN CHAKRA - Divine Source of Creation

The idea of the energy centres – called Chakras in Hindu culture and other names in other cultures – is ancient but the concept of seven Chakras connected with rainbow colours was first written about in the 16th Century by Swami Purananda. Some cultures and healing methods say that there are 13 main Chakras (energy centres) with Hindu Vedic1 healing and Chinese QiGong2 recognizing a whopping 114 Chakras in the human body! This blog covers the most recognized seven Chakras that correspond with the seven colours of the rainbow.

In this third and last part of the Colour Heals series, we will focus on the topmost Chakra called the Crown Chakra or Sahasrara in Sanskrit and we will also summarize all seven Chakras, their colours, attributes and corresponding gem stones.

Lotus of One Thousand Petals

The name of Crown Chakra: Sahasrara refers to the lotus of thousand petals, each of different colour but the colours associated with this Chakra are in the full range of violet to purple and pure white. The colour purple represents many attributes, such as awareness, clarity, intuition, wisdom, royalty, power, ambition and luxury. It is also associated with a variety of meanings such as magic, extravagance, peace, pride, independence, and wealth.

The Crown Chakra, the top of the Chakras chain, is located on top, or slightly above your head. According to Hindu, this Chakra connects us to the Universe and to the Divine Source of Creation.

Aligning the Crown Chakra

If this Chakra is blocked or misaligned and the connection with Universe is broken, we may experience feelings of isolation and depression, apathy, lack of caring, existential despair, cynicism and close-mindness.

The best way to keep the Crown Chakra aligned is to incorporate spiritual practice into our lives. Specific Yoga poses, meditation, mantras (affirmations) and mudras (hand gestures) are just a few ways to unblock the Crown Chakra. Using gem stones and wearing garments in the palette of purple and white all are thought to help with the healing and opening the Crown Chakra.

Tune up the Seven Chakras with gem stones

Since ancient times, Chakras have also been associated with specific gem stones used in healing: each Chakra with its own. Also wearing jewellery such as necklaces, rings and bracelets made from specific gem stones, may help tune up the seven Chakras to their proper vibrations.

Here is the list of all seven Chakras and gem stones associated with them with a summary of their attributes:

First Chakra, ROOT (Muladhara)

Attributes: strength, confidence, self-awareness, harmonious vitality, courage, safety, stability
Colour RED

Garnet, Jasper, Smokey Quartz, Onyx, Lava

Second Chakra, SACRAL (Svadisthana)

Attributes: creativity, joy, freedom, relationships and a healthy balance between body and mind
Colour ORANGE

Carnelian, Aventurine, Peach Moonstone

Third Chakra, SOLAR PLEXUS (Manipura)

Attributes: clarity of judgement, inner strength, positivity and self-confidence
Colour Yellow

Citrine, Tiger Eye, Amber

Fourth Chakra, HEART (Anahata)

Attributes: harmony, kindness, compassion, forgiveness, love, serenity, peace
Colour GREEN
Gem Stones:
Rose Quartz, Rhodonite, Unakite

Fifth Chakra, THROAT (Vishuddi)

Attributes: communication, expression, sound
Colour Light Blue
Gem Stones:
Turquoise, Amazonite, Topaz, Agate

Sixth Chakra: THIRD EYE (Ajna)

Attributes: clarity, intuition, higher perspective, perception, devotion
Colour: Dark Blue and Pure White
Gem Stones:
Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite, Apatite

Seventh Chakra: CROWN (Sahasrara)

Attributes: awareness, spiritual enlightement, wisdom, unity, connection
Colour: Purple
Gem Stones:
Clear Quartz, Amethyst, Labradorite
