How a Photo of Lilies Became the fabARTonstuff Night-Glo Lilies Collection of Activewear
Today I will show you how my photo of lilies from our garden became the Night-Glo Lilies print and collection of super comfy and FAB activewear clothes and accessories: leggings, capris, crop tops, tops, shorts, sports bras, hoodies, dresses, bomber jackets and more.
The Beginning
It all started from a single photo that I took one summer. I added some magic to this photo using the paint app that I like. I worked with textures, brush strokes, blending modes and color filters.
The Brushwork
If you are into brushwork, there are some amazing stand alone apps and plugins that offer a multitude of brush options and media. They are easy to find, just type “digital brushes” or “free digital brushes” into any browser’s search field. “Digital” does not mean that the strokes will paint by themselves – you still need to add your creative zest and your own brushwork to it, if you want to sign the art with your own name that is :)
The Pixel Dimensions
The following step was to enlarge the image to the pixel dimensions required for the large format printing on fabrics. For that you need either a photo/paint app with good resizing algorithms (such as Adobe Photoshop or Corel Painter), a stand alone app such as ON1 or an online service such as Adobe Express or PicResize – to name a few. You can read more about resizing tools, free and paid here: https://shotkit.com/how-to-resize-image
The Positioning
The next step was to upload the image to our Print On Demand (POD) supplier’s interface and start positioning the art on the clothes. Most garments are made from many separate pieces that have to fit with the print like a jigsaw puzzle. If the garments are to complement natural body curves (that is look really good on real people :), the process can be lengthy.
The Photo and Video Shoots
After the Night-Glo Lilies activewear collection was published and ready to print and make, we ordered some samples to be photographed here in the fabARTonstuff studio with our FAB local team of models: Ade, Andrew, Heather, Natalya and Olivia.
We also sent some garment samples to Alex, Cemoy, Chiara, Erika, Jutta and Nick “Tiger” – our wonderful promotors in other places in Canada, the US and Germany – for them to take pictures and film video for our collaborative use.
